The Reverse Atomic Two-Tier style is classic Googie design, a sub-genre of mid-century modern design prominent in Southern California during the 1950s. While much of Mid-Century Modern design was influenced by the asymmetrical rectangular shapes of De Stijl design, Googie design looked to different shapes, such as boomerangs and amoebas, that had rarely if ever been previously used in architectural design.
